                    Message from SeniorsNL & Canada Revenue Agency - October 5th, 2022

Good morning

My name is Tim O’Leary and I am a Volunteer & Outreach Officer with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). I am sending you this email to provide awareness of the CRA’s Outreach Program and to offer assistance to your organization.

The mandate of the CRA’s Outreach Program is to ensure that Canada’s vulnerable populations, which include individuals who are Adults 65+, housing-insecure, modest income, students, newcomers, persons with disabilities, indigenous and others receive the benefits and credits to which they are entitled.

There are a number of ways we can help your organization, free of charge, such as:

  • Provide an information session to staff or clients that covers which benefits and credits (such as the Canada Child Benefit, Goods and Services Tax Credit, Canada Workers’ Benefit and Disability Tax Credit) people are entitled to, if they file a tax return;

  • Provide a Q & A session where staff can ask questions to be better able to assist clients in filing their tax returns, updating their addresses, accessing missing benefit cheques, and accessing benefits and credits.  These sessions can be scheduled regularly to provide ongoing assistance, or on an as-needed basis;

  • Connect individuals/clients with a volunteer who can file their tax returns free of charge;

  • Provide a toll-free number for assistance for staff/clients, for questions that arise outside any scheduled Q&A sessions;

  • Provide a reference document with links and phone numbers that might be useful to you and your clients when dealing with the CRA.

  • Provide information about upcoming CRA employment opportunities for the people you serve.

  • Discuss upcoming in-person events your organization may be hosting, to which we would attend and provide a presentation or informational pamphlets.

We are currently looking for partners who can help disseminate information about these free services to the community. This would entail receiving information by email, and then forwarding it on to the people and organizations served by your organization through email, newsletter, social media or any other form of communication you may have with them.

If any of our free services interest you or if you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me so that we can discuss how we can assist. We can be reached at 1-855-516-4405.

You can also visit our website at any time by using the following link: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/outreach.html .

Thanks kindly,

Timothy O’Leary
